Smokers live on average, 8 years less than non-smokers. Research has shown that about half of all smokers will die prematurely as a result of smoking. What this actually translates as is that you have a 50/50 chance of living to your natural end. Alternatively, if smoking takes you early, it will do so on average, 16 years earlier than if you had been a non-smoker.

Not only that, but later on, your teeth will become whiter, your skin will look better, and your nails too! All these quit smoking benefits will make you feel better about having kicked your addiction, and you will also turn healthier and healthier as days go by! It is these benefits that you should think of when you feel quitting is difficult.

When you blow away the chemical agents, your short term quit smoking benefit in terms of health include not having to suffer from gum disease and foul breath. Your persistent cough will be cured and you will be able to climb up more steps without struggling for breath. Anything else? Yes. You will not catch the cold and flu easily. Mouth ulcers will be a thing of the past, your hypertension will be less of a tension and you can throw away the inhalers for your asthma attacks.

Most importantly, you are less likely to suffer from lung cancer. Your blood stream will be naturally cleansed and it will be able to carry more oxygen to all the organs and cells in your body. This means that you will be generally healthier. After quitting smoking your blood pressure will go down to normal levels and the strain on your heart and blood vessels will be smaller. As a result you can expect to have a reduced risk of diseases of the cardiovascular system such as heart attacks and strokes.

The short term benefits of quitting smoking happen anytime between 20 minutes to two years since your last smoke. In a span of twenty four hours after your last smoke, your blood pressure and pulse rate decreases to a more acceptable rate. After 8 hours, the amount of toxic carbon monoxide in your blood drops down to more acceptable levels. Meanwhile, the amount of oxygen in your blood rises, leading to more oxygen and less carbon monoxide being distributed throughout your body.
