We all need exercise, and keeping active helps us stay healthy for our entire lifetimes. But more research is pointing to the fact that physical fitness can lead to mental fitness, too, especially in the growing bodies and brains of children.A pair of studies of brain development in 9- and 10-year-old Illinois schoolchildren have shown that as children work their bodies, especially with aerobic exercises, it appears to help build up their brain power, according to this New York Times blog post. One study found that fit children have significantly larger basal ganglia, which in part helps us pay attention. Related research that focused on complex memory found that fitter children had a larger hippocampus, which helps the brain handle that important function.
The researchers say that those two key sections of the brain work together, giving us the power to develop intricate thinking.
So despite the arguments of the power of the Wii or the educational value of the Internet or some television show, it just might be aerobic exercise that helps make a kid smarter. If nothing else, they’ll feel better. And so will the parents. www.oviejhealth.blogspot.com ,oviejerebest@yahoo.com. 2348084018280.
